CVVC offers important programs to help seniors reduce their risk of becoming a victim.

The Charlie Check First program teaches elementary school children about such important topics as bullying and home alone safety.

CVVC's child safety curriculum helps children to stay safe by empowering them to make healthy and positive decisions for themselves. The three programs that are most frequently used are "Eddie Eagle", "Charlie Check First", and "Three Kinds of Touches".
  1. The "Eddie Eagle" GunSafe®program, developed by the National Rifle Association teaches elementary school children about gun safety by using a simple idea: If you see a gun…Stop! Don't Touch! Leave the Area! Tell an Adult! This training is put into a song and dance that helps children remember these steps more easily.
  2. Because most children are abducted or abused by someone they know, "stranger danger" is no longer the only effective teaching tool. "Charlie Check First", developed by Diane Brown of Safety Kids, Inc. teaches children to check first before they go Anywhere with Anyone! Charlie also teaches children about such important topics as bullying, home alone safety and dares. Along with the classroom presentations, the "Charlie Check First" curriculum includes material for parents and teachers to reinforce the lessons learned. For more information about the program, visit safetykids.org
  3. The "Three Kinds of Touches" curriculum, developed by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) teaches children about: "safe" touches (the kind that make you feel good); "ouch" touches (the kind that hurt your body, like hitting and kicking); and "uh-oh" touches (when someone touches the private parts of your body for reasons other than health and safety.) The material covers personal boundaries, how to identify the three kinds of touches, and what to do if someone touches you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable — "Say No; Go to a Safe Place; Tell an Adult Whom You Trust; and NO, GO TELL!" The curriculum offers age appropriate material in a variety of ways to provide reinforcement and build skills.

Seniors tend to face limited mobility and dependence on others, increasing their chance of being victimized by crimes such as physical and financial abuse, robbery, burglary, and sexual assault. CVVC offers two key programs to help seniors reduce their risk of becoming a victim.

Our presentation on fraud helps seniors understand the common ways offenders misuse financial resources of the elderly and what they can do to prevent becoming a victim of fraud or con games.

Our presentation on abuse identifies both physical and sexual abuse, neglect of the elderly, possible warning signs of an abused elder, and a look at why crimes against the elderly very often go unreported.
